A Blog tour.
“Orna Ross is currently touring her first novel “Lovers’ Hollow” and is excited to bring her book on-line via various blogs. Orna spent fifteen years in freelance journalism in Dublin and London before settling down to write fiction. This is her first offering, and a bumper read at 668 pages.”
I received Lovers’ Hollow yesterday and it’s so HUGE.
I can’t wait.
“Jo, a 38 year old woman, returns to Ireland for her dead mother’s funeral to find that she has been left a suitcase of papers and letters from the past."
I am told that this novel is a must for lovers of historical fiction, reaching from the present day back to the Irish Civil war. And it deals with everything from a love affair to a murder mystery.
I am so excited.
And what better way to spend a rainy, gloomy Friday.
(with Easter egg and a pot of tea, of course)
And.
Orna Ross also co-runs Literary Agency & Writing Centre in Clontarf, Co. Dublin.
So.
If you’d like to talk to Orna, she’ll be here, on my blog, live in my comments between 12-4pm on Sunday April 6.
And she is happy for you to ask her any questions on her book, writing in general or literary agencies/publishers.
I‘ve agreed to this mainly because that’s what we do, we support writers.
And this one, Orna, has knowledge of the publishing industry from a number of angles.
So it should be an interesting afternoon.
I hope to pick up a number of tips from her and some insight into the confusing world of literary agents.
I’ve never trialled an interactive/live(!) blog tour.
And I’m kind of terrified that no one will turn up.
(so please please try)

In other news.
Weekly update: The Honeypot.
Word count: 20,144.
That’ll be no words written at all this week.
I’ve been mentoring lovely Roz(s) this week and can’t read/edit and write my own stuff too.
It’s a voice thing.
And the kids are off.
And I'm full of excuses.
And the badger will be nibbling my wire.
But I have started a new In Search of Adam novella.
(that’s our secret, okay?)
(hi Clare!)
And.
Help!
I have to pick my favourite ‘Mind and Body’ poem/extract from a short story or novel to read aloud and briefly introduce at an event in May.
Any ideas?
And.
House sale update.
No interest, yet.
*sigh*

I'll be there for the blog tour (how cool!) and good going on your word count for The Honey Pot! I am stuck in a fur lined rut at the moment, waiting for contact from a publisher(don't want to submit'Without Alice' till I hear I can) and can't seem to motivate myself to do anything until then. Heeeelllp!!!!
DJ - waiting for contact from Him ... Ooooh how exciting! It's such a terrible time. I look forward to your company at the blog tour.

Hi Caroline,
Orna here. I've been away but came back today to the news that you are going to be kicking off the VBT for Lovers Hollow. Just dropping in to say thanks so much -I'm really excited about this development. We've never done anything like it before - the blogosphere is virgin territory for us - but it's such a great way to meet writers and readers - fantastic.
I have ordered "In Search of Adam" and am very much looking forward to the read -- Pamela tells me it's great.
Thanks once again for the support,
Talk soon,
Orna
Orna - Thanks so much for saying hi! I am in awe 667 pages!!! I look forward to asking you random questions in 9 days time and to experiencing a live blog tour (I'm sure that there should be a drum roll there) :)
x
Oh, I'm sorry Caroline, but I think I shall be tucked up in bed at that time. If I'm feeling wide awake, I'll do my best to pop by. Good luck anyway.
Will definitely try to make the blog session - sounds brilliant! And I really like the sound of Orna's book.
And a new ISoA novella? I officially love you! Can't wait to read it x
JJ - I didn't think. Sorry :(
Helen - thanks so much honey. Knew I could count on you. And ssssshhhh regarding the novella ... it's a secret.

I really like the sound of Lover's Hollow! Another one for my reading pile :o)
I'm not sure if it qualifies as Mind and Body, but a short story by Virginia Woolf springs to mind. The New Dress is about people using clothes to disguise their true selves, and how 'looking wrong' can create feelings of inadequacy and inferiority.
Well, I liked it anyway!
A mind/body poem?
Wossat, then?
The only mind/body poem I can think of is, not unsurprisingly, one I wrote about Mervyn's feet :)
And I love the Word verification here. I want a Pyfni, whatever it is. I feel it should have icing sugar, coconut, and possibly a cherry. And maybe, just maybe, some shavings of rich dark chocolate!
What about something by Spike Milligan, he was out of his mind most of the time!
Runcorn eh? May eh? hmmmmm.
Those are valid reasons for the slow down in word count...strangely mine's gone up whilst children are about...trying to avoid them y'know! (not really...honest!)
Jon - I'll post about the Reader's Day when I get the details. I have a repeated nightmare about being lost in Runcorn. I am a bit worried about going there :)
Gaz - word verification is back on because I was invaded by spam, again :( And the whole Reader's Day will have a mind/body theme to it! Help! I am giving a workshop:
"Writing about memories.
Would you like to write stories, but don’t know where to start? Ever thought about writing down your memories, but don’t know where to begin?
Caroline Smailes will lead a friendly discussion, showing how writers can use their own memories to produce plots and tales."
Karen - it is superb, add it to your list and please pop back to talk to Orna. And huge thanks for the link to Virginia Woolf - you star!

Hi will try and pop in next Sunday, even though I can't for the life of me work out how you get someone live in your comments!!!!
Hey lovely Cas,
what a fab idea. Unfortunately I will be eating Sunday lunch with my new in-laws at that time, and no doubt will have already dived head first into extra special tit-being-ness. Good luck with it :)
Runcorn Bridge scares the bejesus out of me. Every single time I went over when I was a kid I was convinced the bridge was going to collapse. I'm still kinda scared of it happening and the whole of Runcorn is tainted with that fear. I'm glad I don't go down that way much any more :)
But tomorrow I will be out training people 10-4 so I won't be home til 5ish... and will just want to go to bed then. I am sorry :( If I'd had sense I would have read this earlier and sent you questions in advance. But what with visiting parents I've not been on the interweb.
And I can't wait for the secret ISoA novella either :)
Oh and I have a new bookcase from Ikea. My parents got it me for my birthday and it makes me very happy :)
b - honey. Wrong week!
It's next Sunday honey. Hope you have a good day today. Now ... you will have to fill your bookcase :)
Lovely Ms M - I reserve my extra special tit-being-ness for my in-laws too :)
Sheepish - hope to see you here. I think it'll be an interesting afternoon!

I am SUCH an idiot. I don't know why I thought it was next week already :) And I wondered why you were doing it with such short notice! I will be there!
The bookcase is looking lovely. Now we just need another...!
b - :) Thanks honey.
