My Hello Kitty pencil, the Welshman turning Smudge's ears inside out so he looks like a gremlin, Simon - obviously, people leaving nice comments on my blog, music that makes me get up and dance, Bill Bryson. Reading your blog - except on the days when it makes me cry!

Helen - oooh this is my way to get extra ones past my 34!

Thanks for the extra smiles. I refuse to fall apart this week - the focus is to be positive.

... the crazy cat that visits my garden - it is huge, black & white, more like a cow than a cat, & it just hangs out like it's in its *own* garden, sitting on the rockery, squashing the plants that have managed to survive the gales. x

my splats (cats) - Lugs has just done a vertical take off (all four feet - it was very impressive) because he was scared of....wait for it....a bunch of flowers (He really is stunningly stupid). Gai, who was sitting next to him, just turned and gave him such a look of disdain...... Ha, Lugs now actually looks embarrassed!!!

*Goes away giggling*

N3S, Chopper, indoor sports, food and wine, tea (lots of it), seeing the end of 'Without Alice' looming, having lots of time to read, a whole day off work so I can indulge in uninterrupted writing while everyone else is at school and work! I can't believe Makka Pakka (the rock fondler) makes you smile but I am with you on the Calpol!

Caroline said...

Peter - only you know the answer to that one :)

Stray (who is not stray) - Squared Paper is lovely for drawing patterns on/doodling, propelling pencils are ok but I really love a nice sharp pencil(!), I have never had tasted a Starbar, sleeping in a tent is so so sooooo cold, Guitar hero is genius, crosswords are too hard for me.

Helen - going to the bathroom on your own would have/should have been on there but I only had 34 numbers. Just once. That's all I ask! Just once going to the bathroom without someone coming in/needing me.

nmj - a cat that is more like a cow than a cat. Now that made me smile. See this is the way to ease the stresses and angst!

Carol - a cat who is scared of a bunch of flowers! :)

dj - a whole day off work to indulge in uninterrupted writing while everyone else is at school and work. Yip! Especially if I get to wear my slippers and no makeup. And I love Makka Pakka very very much. Poppy has a life sized one and I have a little one too :)

Oh I like this post!

- My family
- My friends
- Nice messages on facebook
- A friend who takes the time to help me even when she's having a tough week. (This also makes me cry but let's not split hairs?)
- Tulips (they make me think of our wedding day)
- Seeing the Cure on Thursday
- Scones (I am going to make some later)
- People who care enough to make a difference (they also make me cry but in a good way)
- The thought of having a car next week
- Dr Seuss
I need to think of more, and I need to smile more.
Thanks for this post Cas. A timely reminder for me, too.

Caroline said...

Lucy D - oh yes! Especially when it is a full roll. An almost finished roll does not make me smile :)

Helen - before I had children I didn't like coffee. Now it fills my veins with hope :)

xx

Caroline said...

B - you sneaked in :)

My friends - oh yes!
Nice messages on facebook - they make me cry too. I love Facebook very very much!
I am jealous of you seeing the Cure! So jealous :)
People who care enough to make a difference make me shiver, cry and smile.

And timely reminders are needed every now and then. Sometimes we get lost in the doom. x

Oh, okay...I get it. Full roll - good.

Here are some random ones of mine:

The smell of honeysuckle
Underwater handstands
The sound of my kids laughing
Singing Happy Birthday
Warming my hands on a good strong cup of tea
Sainsburys chocolate tiffin (mmmmm)
Stroking a warm dusty cat
Feeling the sun on my face
Cold glass of wine when the kids are in bed
School holidays!
Lego (apart from when I tread on it)
Big thick duvets

Ahhh....I feel blissed out now. Thank you!

Helen said...

You've got me thinking.

Gavin & Stacey
Lying on my bed reading
My Blue Tit Emma Bridgewater mug
Cold days
Autumn
Cream teas
Chocolate cornflake cakes
Sunday lunch with my family (mums cooking)
I'm with Lucy on the wine thing
The Royle Family
A sweaty body step class
Take That the musical. Oh yes indeed.

A lot of mine revolves around food, drink, TV and books...

I forgot - Looking at pics of Trent Reznor. now THAT makes me smile.

and arguing with my hubby about who would leave who for johnny depp. he reckons johnny would be more interested in him. I beg to differ (although Vanessa Paradis would almost certainly point and laugh at us both)

some more later i think.

Squirrels
New notebooks waiting to be written in
Heath Ledger films
Books
Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel's song-fight
Captain Jack (Sparrow)
MAC lipstick
Puppies
Snowdrops
My best friend's daughter saying 'nosie' and pointing to her nose
Good dreams
Children enjoying themselves
Cats meowing
Corsets

Caroline said...

Juliette - a HUGE yes to Neil Gaiman and corsets, even together, perhaps (sigh) x

B - I would leave you both for Johnny Depp :)

Helen - yes to Chocolate cornflake cakes, especially with Mini Eggs on the top and as to Take That the Musical ... I am lost LOST for words :)

Lucy D -random is grand!
The sound of my kids' laughing fading in the distance as I pour a large cold glass of wine knowing that the kids are in bed, that the school holidays are about to begin and I am to be wrapped in a big thick duvets ... *sigh* oh and if we add Mini Eggs or a Cadbury's buttons easter egg, then perfect!

I like to smile at:

Frosty mornings painted with sunshine,
Apples,
My tortoise,
Black and white photos,
Cranes/Pylons/Railway stations,
Long showers where you sit in the bath at the same time,
Posh teas,
Pesto,
Female legs,
My friends' puns - which I'm crap at,
Driving,
Music,
Belting my drums,
Arnie films/Action films generally,
The Man from UNCLE and telly much like it,
Telling people I don't like Friends,
Children's observations,
Brilliant books,
Postcards,
Multiplayer online geek-outs,
Tattoos.

I could go on but I feel like it's an indulgence too far in somebody else's comments box :) xx

Being alive...which is also a bit of a surprise, which in turn is what makes me smile...friends,that glimpse of blue sky on a grey wind/rain swept day, RnB in full play mode, the patch of dry grass found to sit on midst the mud to watch them, a child laughing at my jokes, a smile from a stranger, home made chocolate cake in a newly found cafe, bottoms on the female of the species, books, swimming in the sea in the rain, high heels and fishnets - they make others go hysterical but I'm not seeing what they see I'm feeling what I'm feeling!, yarn-paper and fabric.... actually much makes me smile.

B said...

Cas - but you'd send me a postcard from wherever he whisked you off to??? Right??????

Planting spuds, spinach, carrots, cherry tomatoes and onions in big pots in the garden has made me smile today. Now let's hope my optimism is justified and they grow :) Last time the weather was too bad and they... didn't really justify the investment, let's say.

If nipple tassles make you smile (as well they should), try going onto youtube and checking out Goldfrapp....

What makes me smile?

Well apart from the above...

A non-pc joke about a cheese grater

Any number of silly memories which seem too good to have actually been real, but which definitely did happen

Cats

Cheap casio keyboards

Good friends

Cups of tea and bars of chocolate

Kitchen roll

Heavy rain when you're in a greenhouse

A knowing look

and so many other things...

Caroline said...

Ms M - I miss you :(

Trousers - A non-pc joke about a cheese grater? I had a dream about a casio keyboard last night. Really, I was struggling to put it onto a stand.

I must say that cats are doing rather well in the whole smiling thing :)

Leigh - Hi and thank you.

B said...

Nooooo it is from the fudge kitchen in York. They do dairy free fudge. It is delish.

I can pick it up tomorrow - fiiiiiinally. But that means I am back at work. Which makes me sad. Oh well... at least it is a 4 day week....

Caroline said...

oh honey. Are you already back at work????? How did that happen so quickly? :( At least you will have fudge.

B said...

I had some of the maple walnut and the choc delight, and that helped me get through :)

I could do with another week off but I'm sure I will manage! It's nearly my birthday which always helps :)
